D&V Organics CSA

Week 14

We made it out of this last batch of weather pretty unscathed, no substantial damaging amount of rain and no damages from the wind.  However, this time of year, the excessively wet periods typically mean problems will show up when we go out to pick our tomatoes and melons.  For the tomatoes, we usually see a lot of soft fruit and fruit with a lot of cracks and splits, making it not good to pick, anticipating a week off of tomatoes, until we get more new fruit ripening.  In our melons, the wet conditions are what favors certain plant diseases to enter and infect the fruit, making it go bad very quickly.  We did just pick a big load of melons, which we are excited to put into shares this week, but it's hard to say how many more weeks we'll get out of the patch considering the number of wet days we've had while the plants are bearing fruit.  The rainy weather has been a little more ideal for all of the things we are planting and have coming in the next few weeks, we are looking forward to the seasonal shift very soon.

Enjoy,

Derek and Crew
