We have something fun for you this week. Sunflower heads! Lay the whole head out on the picnic table or bird feeder for the birds and squirrels to enjoy or you can remove the seeds to roast for yourself. A sign of season change. The plants are preparing seeds for next year's crops. Zucchini is becoming a thing of the past and winter squash is starting to ripen. Soon Brussels Sprouts will have their sweet flavor with the cooler temperatures.
Gail was able to finally get out on the tractor and rotovate the winter radishes and turnips. The tractor has been down for two weeks and she was getting a bit anxious over the weeds popping up in the rows. After this email goes out she will head out to rotovate the late crop of Lacinato Kale and onions. Greenhouse 4 is looking good with in ground season extension of peppers, Roma tomatoes and salad greens. Under the squash leaves we can see a nice crop of winter squashes ripening. We will begin to harvest them to cure in the warm sunshine. The acre of Brussels Sprouts are forming their little green orbs.
Next Saturday and/or Sunday, we are planning on putting the second layer of plastic on greenhouse 4 and both layers on greenhouse 3. It takes many hands and NO WIND! Watch the weather forecast and our emails. If anyone would like to help we can use the extra hands. We start early....usually 7 am. The wind starts getting out of hand by 10 am. Taken a whole year to finish repairs from the tornado of 7/19.
