This is Steven enjoying the yearly October apple kipping with his Grandma Gail. This is the rest of the story.... There is an old apple tree in a neighbor's yard that produces many small red apples that make great applesauce. The tiny farmhouse that raised at least 7 children is long since gone to waste. The apple tree outside the now non-existent side door is still producing. Some years the apples are buggy, or have fallen off by the time we get there. The deer think it is a special spot too. One year someone drove by and asked if it was our tree and confessed that they kipe apples from the tree as well! Since it is October and Halloween is just around the corner, Steven and I always think we can hear the kids that used to play in this yard laughing while they pick up apples for the applesauce that their Mom or Grandma used to make. The old apple tree makes us think about eating locally, waste not want not, recycling of the soil and the longevity of a simple balanced ego-system. Best of all, it is now a tradition to visit the apple tree every October. In the spring we will be checking out the blossoms that produce the red balls for summer viewing.
This past week was certainly a bugger. We made it through the early round of snow, freezing pipes and figuring out where the snow shovels are. Many of you were totally confused about the Harvie renewal system for the special early winter season that we decided to offer. It doesn't start for another couple of weeks, so, hopefully we will have everything in place for a smooth transition into the extra 6 weeks if you choose to participate.
