Just ran outside to check the rain gauge. We have received 2" of much needed rain. It probably spoiled many outside activities, but, the air seems to be cleared of the smoke from the forest fires and our fields really needed the rain. (Although, it is 2 months late for most of our crops. Take what we can get!) The lawns greened up and guess what? We will have to mow lawn again!
As you can see by the above photo, Ryan is helping with the broccolini and broccoli harvest. Gail makes the decision on what gets cut. Ryan holds the container and hauls it to the shade. When there is enough containers to fill the 6 wheeler we haul it to the wash station. it all gets a nice cold bath in salt water, boxed and placed into the cooler.
This week we are offering some "Add On" items. Milk and Honey reports on a fair crop of honey. The dry, hot weather affects the honey production as well. They have 2 large hive beds here on the farm. The bees do well with plenty of wild flowers and the river nearby. If you select eggs, please remember to be prompt about your pick-up times. They are refrigerated until the point of drop off. The spices are from a one source small farmers company. We connected with them because we liked the idea that the spices were not gathered from places all over the country and dumped into one pot. Just comes from one hard working farmer.
People ask about what to do with Wheat Grass. Well, some feed it to their pet dragons, but, most juice it with many other goodies for a healthy addition to their smoothies.
It is time to order green beans for canning, extra zucchini for shredding to freeze for that December zucchini bread.
Take care, stay safe and come out for a visit.
