Happy Fall.
We are starting to harvest the winter squashes. Not much to harvest as a result of the drought. We will be grateful for what we have and use it carefully. The process of harvesting squash is simple. First we cut the squash from the main stem. If you snap the stem totally off the squash body it leaves a wound open and will rot quickly. Carefully handling is necessary. Must not damage the skin or it will also allow entry of germs that cause them not to keep as long. The squash are laid in a large bin. We place the bin in the warm sunshine so the squash can cure and form a protective skin.
As mentioned a few weeks ago when seeding, we have those beautiful Wissota Greens ready for harvest again. The last flush of greens before the long winter without green.
As always...have a great week, enjoy the fall colors all around you, and remember you are always welcome to visit.
