Over these 18 weeks, you have eaten fresh and locally grown fruits and vegetables. The season is drawing to a close, and there is fun to be had. I am harvesting in the fields every day, but only for a few hours. I then switch over to field cleanup work. I pull up the irrigation systems, and then I turn over the soil, preparing it for a great 2021 season.
We have one more week after this for the folks that were affected by the skip week. We added shares to the end of their scheduled shares. If you are curious if this is your last week - log in to your Harvie.farm account and look under "deliveries". We will also send you an email like normal.
The farmstand is open through October and is bursting with colors and flavors. I plan to do a few "pop up harvests" through Harvie to the farm stand subscribers (put your name in at https://www.harvie.farm/farm-stand/farmer-joes-gardens if you want us to reach out as they are available).
You may find it hard to pick what to eat in the next few weeks. Make a trip out to the farm stand - we are open through October 24 unless it snows. If you head elsewhere, trust your nose and read your labels. Smell the produce and decide if it smells the way you expect it to. Ask questions like - when was this picked? Was it picked when it was ripe or has it been treated to ripen faster? Decide what is important to your family - how far should food travel, how should it be grown, what additives and preservatives are acceptable?
We will reach out soon as we prepare to open for the 2021 CSA season with instructions on how to renew. If you loved it this year - think about how great it will be to see us again in just a few short months. If you know folks would love it - send them a referral and you both win. Support local food diversity and good agriculture practices - tell us to plant for you.
Thank you for your support, your feedback, and for enjoying all the fun of the Farmer Harvest. We can't do this without you.
