Locally we got over 8 inches of rain last week!
During the first hour of the rainstorm, the water was coming down so fast it was just sitting on the ground surface. It was about 4 inches deep just sitting there because the ground was so hard and dry.
Eventually, the soil loosened in spots. I watched the water disappear as if the ground was a sponge. The soil just drank in the water in seconds.
I watched the river very closely with that much rain coming down so quickly after such a long drought. Usually, when we reach about 5 inches of rainfall, the river that feeds our fields and ponds overflows.
The river was so low that when the water crested, the river did not go over the banks! That is a blessing for all of us and the fields that line the river.
We have one more week after this week left in the 2022 CSA. We hope you have had a lot of really great meals.
Now is a great time to look ahead to 2023. Our renewal week is coming up in the first week of October. We are going to send lots of information out. To get a heads start - tell us you want to renew by making sure your profile is correct! Inside your Harvie account, under your profile - ensure the Auto-Renew box is turned on. Reach out to us if you need help with that setting.
