August.
The final sigh of summer.
The month that straddles the line between the carefree spirit of summer and the brisk busyness of fall. It's a month of golden sunsets, BBQs, and swimming pools; a stretch of time where every moment is a memory painted in shades of orange and pink.
On the farm, August is a beacon of change.
You start to see it in the cornfield. The green leaves turn to gold, signaling that harvest time is near. It's reflected in our tomato plants, heavy with ripe, juicy ready to be plucked. The peppers, eggplants, and other summer crops reach their peak, creating a colorful palette that only August can bring.
As I walk around the farm, I can't help but reflect on the beauty of this transition.
August is like the Sunday of summer. It's that sacred pause before the hustle of fall routines begins. A moment to take a breather, to appreciate the fruits of our labor, and to prepare for the tasks ahead. This is perhaps my favorite thing about being a farmer - observing, participating in, and respecting the rhythm of the seasons.
And just like on a Sunday, we make the most of this time. We soak up the last lazy afternoons of summer, celebrate the bounty of the season, and prepare for the bustling harvest ahead.
So, as you enjoy the "Sunday" of summer, whether by savoring you basket of fresh produce or simply appreciating the sunset, remember to take a moment.
Pause.
Reflect.
Enjoy.
Because that's what August is all about.
Don't you agree?
