Good morning!
We had our second frost of the season today. It is hard to tell the damage until later this afternoon, when the leaves show the tell tale signs. We are busy getting frost protection out, but it is a challenge this year with late crop like beans that are usually done for the season by first frost. Our first frost since we have been farming has been September 9th, before this year. We just have to take it as it comes, I hear mid to high 80's are in our future this week and early next week!
Speaking of beans, we will continue rotating them in, as we are getting some, but not enough for everyone to have some quantity at once. Cucumbers in the hoop house are coming on and will be in large shares. Summer squash-- zucchini and crook necks will be in small shares this week. A second harvest of red potatoes for everyone this week as well.
I saw a dragonfly in the garden this week, always a special treat. There are lots of pollinating bees as well this year. We let the flower bed re-grow this past week, so look for flower bunches this week.
We so appreciate your support of organic, local farming, and we just can't say it enough. Without you, we would not be able to farm! Please let us know if we can serve you better in any way, and if you find issues with any produce. We also love hearing about what you cook and how you prepare your produce, it is rewarding to know it is being eaten and enjoyed!
Have a wonderful week, and welcome September this week!
Claudia, Jim, and Stephanie.
