Good evening everyone:
If you were in last weeks' share, I want to let you know that we had a lettuce struggle. The butterhead lettuce became bitter before bolt stage, most likely due to the heat. If you had it listed in your share, we substituted with either Romaine leaves, or Romaine head lettuce and did not harvest the butterhead. In addition, one of our spring mix beds grew too large too fast, also most likely from the heat. As a result, there were some pieces of dead lettuce mixed in with the good lettuce leaves. I worked to get out the dead pieces, but I ran out of time to get it as clean as I would like. The lettuce grows close together, and with the heat, grew more quickly than usual and then the individual leaves were crowding out each other. If you were in this past weeks' shares, I will be placing a $3.00 credit on your account to use to purchase extras at anytime. We work hard to provide you with the best quality produce we can, but I feel particularly the spring mix did not meet my quality standards. Spring Mix is one of our signature crops, so I especially don't like that it was not at its best. This week we have a new crop of romaine heads and/or the other bed of Spring Mix in the shares.
The beans are forming!!! Not quite ready for this week's shares, but I am thinking next week! Red potatoes arrive this week, as does Azure Star Kohlrabi! Tomatoes will be ready very soon. So many on vine, just not quite ripe! This is a good broccoli week as well. I am working to make sure everyone is getting broccoli in their shares as it ripens, so please let me know if you would like it and have not received any yet. Also, zucchini and other summer squash is starting to come ripe! Some will be in this week's share, but look for more next week.
If you are picking up on farm this week, Clare will be here with her flower shares, and some extra flower arrangements! She is placing a few in as extras in your weekly list, and then plans to bring some additional flowers on Wednesday from 2-6 pm. Stephanie will also be here, and will have some Holy Basil Tea for you to try. She has a few Holy Basil bunches left, and they will also be offered as extras. Finally, Joanna the Mushroom Log business farmer will be here to talk mushrooms with you! If you usually pick up in Eatonville, Puyallup, or Packwood but would like to come to the farm on Wednesday for the "Extras" people, just change your pick up location. We would love to see you on Farm!
Have a wonderful week!
