Hello Members!
We have had some excitement on the farm this week with the long awaited arrival of Roxie's 12 beautiful babies. They are safe and sound in the barn for now but will be out running around and rooting in the forest before long (we will keep you posted on our social media accounts!).
Rea and Greg have been running the show all winter long but this week we will have a full work crew up and running again with the arrival of Tej (who we are so happy to welcome back!) and Devon this weekend.
As we start our new season we are doing our best to transition away from single use plastic wherever we can. This year you will find your weekly groceries in reusable bags. Please remember to return them so that we can continue to reuse them and reduce waste.
For produce this week, we have a fresh crop of spring radish (yum!) and the sunchokes are still at their very best of the season. We will have various oyster and lion's mane mushrooms; the lion's manes look a bit more like bear's head tooth shape this week (they threw off a lot of heat which impacts the shape in which they grow) but the flavour and health benefits are the same. Being new to mushroom growing, they will still be listed as "gourmet mushrooms". Within the next few weeks we should be able to better predict what varieties will be ready at which time so that you can choose the specific variety you want to order:). Looking for suggestions on how to prepare Lion's Mane? Check out this recipe on Wicked Kitchen!
We have freshly harvested local flowers from Flowers of the Field again this week. Ours form last week have been becoming more beautiful each day.
Wishing everyone a great week!
Your farmers,
Greg and Kate.
