Hello Members!
This is your friendly weekly reminder that the farm stand is open for orders until Monday at noon.
We have some exciting news this week...tomatoes are back on the menu!! Greg and the gang have been providing the vines with lots of TLC and they have bounced back and are producing some beautiful fruits again. We also have some delicious baby potatoes and the last of our watermelons for the season are simply delicious.
This year our gardens have been pretty stressed with all of the rain that has come our way. As you know, we have lost some crops and others have had to take a bit of a break to recuperate. Given all of the rain it is surprising that we have not lost more of our crops. This week, we started listening to a new podcast, Zoe Science and Nutrition Podcast, and have been learning more about phytochemicals. These are the chemicals that protect plants from pests and disease and are also the chemicals that feed our gut microbiome and provide health benefits. It turns out that when plants face more adversity, they produce more phytochemicals and therefore more health benefits. So although there have been a few weeks when we have had some losses, the health of our soil and our plants has spared most of our crops and those that survived were supercharged with health benefits, pretty cool silver lining:).
Wishing everyone a great week.
Your Farmers,
Greg and Kate.
