Farm Happening Sept 26-28

Posted on September 20th, 2024 by Greg Stainton

Hello Members!

This is your weekly reminder that the farm stand is open for orders (until Monday at noon).

It is hard to believe how quickly this season is flying by...there are only six weeks left of this harvest season and still so many good things to come!

This week we have our first broccoli of the season and my mouth is watering already thinking of caramelized pan seared broccoli with garlic (maybe we should try that on a pizza?!) like in this recipe from Food and Wine.

Good news to all of you who have been patiently waiting for more pasture raised pork...it has returned!  We have an abundance of sausages available this week and will try to finish our inventory and have lots of variety on the store next week.

During our garden walk through this morning we noticed that the sweet potato plants are starting to flower.  Once the flowers die back, we will start digging to check on them.  Last year Kate's absolutely favourite crop was the heirloom sweet potatoes.  They may not be here until the last week of the season but they are definitely worth the wait!  We will also offer storage crops like potatoes, sweet potatoes, pumpkins and squash as well as hardy greens like kale and brussels sprouts through the winter, starting in December.

Wishing everyone a great week.

Your Farmers,

Kate and Greg.
