Farm Happening Oct 3-5

Hello Members!

This is your weekly reminder that the farm stand is open for orders (until Monday at noon).

Our newest item this week is our long awaited Turkey Craw Pole Beans.

We started growing these beans the year we decided to start farming.  The first year we planted one small pack of seeds and couldn't believe how crispy and sweet they were for fresh eating, even as they got a bit bigger.  We saved some mature seeds and have expanded our planting each year and have even started experimenting with cooking some of the dried beans (spoiler alert, they are pretty delicious!).  This is our first week of Turkey Craw season.  We expect them to last for about three weeks of fresh eating.  You can prepare them in any way you would other green beans but they can also stand up to longer cooking.  One of our family favourite turkey craw recipes is THIS ONE from Southern Living.

On our garden walk through this week we were most impressed with just how amazing all of the brassicas look, especially the collards (in this week's picture) which we grow year round, but have doubled in size over the last few weeks.  Harmony Member Jane shared THIS COLLARDS RECIPE with us a few years ago and it has become a family favourite quick and delicious go-to dinner.

Last week, we said we had dahlias available and forgot to add them to the store...they should be there this week!  We were going to offer a new kombucha flavour this week but walking through the tulsi patch we noticed that it was at its peak fragrance so we will offer one last week of tulsi and then move on to something new next week (maybe habanero/mint?).

Our meat inventory has been updated so anyone who has been waiting for a fresh supply, please take a minute to look through the offerings and update your basket.

Wishing everyone a great week!

Your Farmers,

Greg and Kate.
