Farm Happening October 26

Posted on October 25th, 2024 by Greg Stainton

Hello everyone!

Fall is definitely here and we are changing our emphasis from nurturing this season's crops to preparing for next season.

Each week now we are working our way down the garden, harvesting and preserving everything we can and preparing the garden beds for a well deserved rest.  We will bring anything we harvest to the Brockville Farmers' Market on Saturday mornings and will post our weekly expected harvest on the online farm stand Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning.  The store will be open until Tuesday morning at 8 am for order pick up and delivery during the usual Thursday -Saturday pick up and delivery options.  You can expect to see more prepped and frozen veggies as well as our frozen meats, kombucha, and products from our community partners (bread, dairy, beef, preserves, tea, coffee etc).  We will keep our hardy greens in the garden as long as possible so that we can continue to offer freshly harvested goodness as a part of your online order.

We had hoped to offer squash and apple pizza at the market this week but unfortunately left the squash and pumpkins in the garden one night too long and lost them all to frost last night...the pigs and chickens will be having a feast!  And we will make sure to plant them a bit earlier next year:).  If we come across great pizza toppings as we are preserving our harvest, we will bake a batch of pies to offer frozen on the store.  We will keep you posted!

We have had a number of members reaching out and asking about how to return any remaining Harmony Farm bags and Kombucha bottles.  Here are some ideas:

  • Bring them to us at the Brockville Farmers' Market on Saturday mornings
  • Leave them out for Rea to collect when you are expecting a farm stand delivery
  • Keep them for next year and leave them out the first week of your 2025 Farm Share (and help us to advertise by using them around town until then!)

Please remember that we will be moving to a different platform (Local Line instead of Harvie) starting in December. In order to continue as a member, you will have to sign up with the new platform. We will send updates about this and an invite for you to join so that you can continue to receive regular installments of farm fresh foods.

Wishing everyone a great week.

Your Farmers,

Kate and Greg.
