Hello Everyone!
This is your friendly weekly reminder that the farm stand is open for orders from now until Monday at noon.
It looks like we have at least a few more beautiful weeks of warm fall weather. This week's overnight lows killed some of the crops in our garden but others, like our radish, salad turnip and kale have just gotten better with the frost-kissed sweetness that happens this time of year.
Each week during the growing season, we do a full garden tour each Friday morning in order to estimate what we will be able to freshly harvest for the following week's deliveries. This time of year, it becomes a bit more difficult to predict what we will have so we will populate the store with items that we are reasonably certain that we will have but will add items in prior to store closing if it looks like something we were not certain about will in fact be available (for example this week, we will re-visit ground cherries to see how they have fared in the cold night temperatures and will also add in bacon quantities after we pick up our latest order of bacon from Brothers' today).
As things are slowing down with our delivery season, we will transition to pick ups and drop offs at Upper Canada Creamery every second week. For those of you who pick up at Upper Canada Creamery, we will be delivering there Thursday Oct 31 and then every second Thursday moving forward until we get back into our busier season (May-October). For those of you who love UCC dairy products, you can order 2 weeks' worth at a time. Ellen from UCC has assured us that the products with the shortest shelf life (milk and curds) have 12 day BB windows. We will pick them up when they are freshly made /packaged so your orders will last from one delivery to the next.
This week, we have lots of sweet and crunchy garden veggies as well as our delicious cherry tomatoes. Our kombucha flavour this week is Mint-Habanero. We really weren't sure what to expect from this flavour combo and were surprised that it is really the sweetness of the peppers that shines through.
Wishing everyone a great week.
Your farmers,
Kate and Greg.
