Coffee of the Week: Commonplace Coffee's Schenley Park Blend
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy (PPC), this offering represents where it all started. The PPC was founded in December 1996 by a group of citizens known as the Schenley Park Conservancy who were concerned with the deteriorating conditions of Pittsburgh's historic city parks. We couldn't wait to create a blend that represents the adjectives PPC chose to describe this significant and beloved park. The Ozolotopic, Mexico coffee provides the "foundational" takes on "historic, boundless, and energetic" qualities. Ethiopia is the birthplace of coffee, and along with that historical element comes a boundless flavor profile offered by the distinct and unique coffee varieties grown in the region. We tied the Mexican and Ethiopian coffees with a Commonplace mainstay, Ceiba, Guatemala to bind the flavors together and provide balance. This is the second offering in our five-part collaborative Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy Blend Series with 25% of retail bag profits going directly back to the PPC in support of the incredible work they do!
Bread of the Week: Red Fife Sourdough Bread
Red Fife bread has a wonderful nutty, slightly sweet flavor that works well in many settings. Our Red Fife Batard is made using organic heritage red fife grain grown on our own land in Arizona. The entire milling process is done in-house using traditional stone-ground milling equipment. Natural levain (sourdough) starter is added, giving this loaf a subtle, tangy bite. Use it in place of a traditional sourdough bread, paired with your favorite meats and cheese, or simply toast and enjoy!
