Harvie Farms Pittsburgh Week of 3/29/2021

Posted on March 24th, 2021 by Jordan Mason

Coffee of the Week: Passenger's Coffee Daterra

Bittersweet cocoa and red berry aromatics lead into a super clean and balanced cup replete with flavors of molasses, date, cherry, and plum.

Daterra is a remarkable farm located in Cerrado, Brazil. Lauded as the most sustainable farm in Brazil and earning the reputable B-Corp certification, this is agriculture on a dramatically different scale than the vast majority of coffee farmers Passenger works with. Farms like Daterra push innovation and technology implementation in coffee, and were the first farm to vacuum seal coffees and export them in hermetically sealed packaging rather than in jute bags!

Bread of the Week: Mediterra Bakehouse's Sprouted Spelt

The Sprouted Spelt is a new spin on an old classic. To create this loaf, we took our famous Mt. Athos and added spelt berries (sprouted in-house) throughout. The process of sprouting partially breaks down the starch in the grain, which aids in digestion. Sprouting also decreases the carbohydrate content and increases fiber content. This loaf is made with the same germ-restored wheat we use for our Mt. Athos, with provides a delicious wheat aroma and a nutty, earthy flavor. Our Sprouted Spelt bread is topped with flax and millet before baking for added health benefits, making it one of our most hearty loaves.
