Harvie Farms Pittsburgh Week of 5/03/2021

Posted on April 28th, 2021 by Derek Dumont

What better way to celebrate finally being able to get together with vaccinated friends and family than by sharing a farm to table feast? At Harvie, we spent the last year dreaming of the dinner party we would throw when it finally felt safe to do so. Now with the CDC condoning the indoor gatherings between vaccinated households (read the full CDC recommendations here) and more of us getting our shots each day, Harvie wants to help you celebrate this landmark!

Presenting: Harvie’s first ever Dinner Party in a Harvie Box (serves 4).

For this pilot, we are inviting 15 Harvie Farms Pittsburgh members to test it out with us and give feedback afterwards. Your party kit will include flowers for the table, menus (with recipes) for each guest, and many of the ingredients* needed to prepare and serve the following menu to your guests.

  • Cheese Board: Winemaker’s Select Cheese from Clover Creek Cheese Cellar, Chevre from Goat Rodeo Farm and Dairy, pickles from The Pickled Chef, Raspberry Almond Jam from Batch, and Pain Au Levain from Mediterra Bakehouse

  • Local Raw Salad: Fifth Season spinach with watermelon radishes, peas shoots, pickled red onions, and sunflower seeds, served with Green Goddess Dressing courtesy of The Pickled Chef

  • Entrée: Lion’s mane mushroom “crab” cakes served with a rosemary and chive roasted potatoes and asparagus.

  • Dessert: Local apple crisp

*Harvie will provide many of the local items you need to prepare the recommended recipes, and we ask that you provide pantry staples and a few of the ingredients not available on Harvie. You may wish to provide a beverage to guests as well —we’ll leave that one up to you!

Coffee of the Week: Commonplace Coffee's Morning Blend

DESIGN: A balanced and lively daily cup accessible to all tastes. PROFILE: Balanced with plum and savory body.

Bread of the Week: Mediterra Bakehouse's Mt. Athos Fire Bread

Our flagship bread, the Mt. Athos is made using a germ-restored wheat sourdough, which gives the bread its dark color.  This chewy, dense bread is great as a table loaf accompanied by olive oil or cheese, but it’s distinct crust also makes it an excellent choice for breakfast toast, or sliced and used for sandwiches.
