Fall Week #3 - Baby it's cold outside!

Posted on November 1st, 2019 by Stacey Taggart

Good news and bad news... The Arctic cold front that passed through has had us and Boot Hill Farm running, covering and uncovering, harvesting eggs 4 times a day.  This is the coldest it's been this early in the year since we've been farming! We prepare for Frost's and freezes with our frost fabric and high tunnels which keep most crops warm to down around 20 degrees, but it got down to 0 out at our farm!! We covered everything as best we could, but we still lost a lot! The good news is that we have plenty of root vegetables, pumpkins, and squash! The cold has also hindered Rick's butchering operations and he is out of whole chickens. If you have whole chickens on your order and would be willing to trade out for other meats, he would appreciate it! Thanks as always for your support and hopefully you are staying warm!
