Here we are - the final spring share of the year. On June 3rd, we'll be delivering our first summer share. The spring share eases us into the rhythm of the CSA season with 29 weekly boxes to pack. There are 93 shares scheduled for the first week of summer deliveries. Here we go!
Crops in the field are enjoying the warmer weather. We've been busy planting summer crops - tomatoes and potatoes were planted yesterday. Between this weekend's rains, we'll be planting winter squash, watermelons, and cantaloupe.
This week's harvest includes more beautiful butterhead lettuces and mini romaine. The kale and beet/chard green mix are perfect for sauteing and braising. Here is the method we use for braising greens. (https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/6165-braised-greens) I often omit the red pepper flakes, and it is still good without the garlic. Apple cider vinegar, red wine vinegar, or lemon juice can all be used instead of white wine. You can use water or vegetable broth, too. I love braised greens as a side to fried eggs and toast.
We've enjoyed hearing what you all are making with our vegetables. We sure have been enjoying the return of fresh produce!
Have a lovely Memorial Day weekend!
Your Farmers,
Craig and Lauren
