Farm Happenings for May 19, 2020

Posted on May 15th, 2020 by Lisa Duff

Hello and welcome to Maryland weather! We were at the market in our winter coats, gloves and hats Saturday morning. It was even too cold to bring the transplants!  Tomorrow's forecast for market-80F. Our picture this week features Jenna and I pulling all the dead flowers and berries off the strawberry plants after 1 freeze and 2 frosts last week. GEEZ. We covered, uncovered, covered, and uncovered again but one night some of the covers blew off and it was just too cold! The plants look healthy enough and hopefully will recover with a strong showing of fruit. Finger's crossed. We have tasted the first few delicious fruits...delightful. It will be some time before they come on strong...hoping for a nice balance of sun and rain this week and next.

We are busy replanting this week the tomatoes and squash we lost in the frost. It's all ok, luckily we have a lot of replacement plants. Calculated risks...

You will see bok choi and beets this week. Sauté those beet greens-SO GOOD for you. The spinach train has ended...the lettuce train is coming in.

A Friendly Bread (I mistakenly keep calling Lane's company The Breadman-lol) is offering Olive bread this week for bread share. You will LOVE it! A la carte purchases include large loaves of whole wheat, cinnamon raisin and rosemary orange zest.

Have a great week! Thank you for your patronage, the appreciation and all the love. We feel it, we take it in and it fuels us!

Local is the new normal ;)

Be Well,

Lisa
