Those of you who have been coming to the Vienna farm to get your vegetables already know about the road construction. It has been going on for over a year and things are getting even more tangled and intense, right in front of our driveway. We got a notice recently that announced that people who are coming to our roadside stand will have to use a service road that will magically appear soon. And it sounds like those coming from the east will have to go quite a distance, all the way to the light at Carpers Farm Way to make a U-turn. This is supposed to last until September 10.
The bottom line: for the next two or three weeks we will all have to pay close attention to the signs that tell us what we can do. It will not be convenient. We know this is not easy, getting to the farm, and we appreciate your dedication to your vegetables.
Other than that, we are all looking forward to September. Of course, many of our crew are young enough to be returning to school, both teachers and students. We are accustomed to the transition to a smaller crew, but some of our newer folks are feeling nervous. What they don't know is that everything gets so much easier when it stops being so HOT! When the weather is glorious, we can work without even noticing, and we just get it all done with half as many people.
There are no U-turns in the farm season, and the detours are generally weather related. For the most part, we have been traveling on a straight and well-worn path. This season has not been full of surprises, thank goodness. The road construction will be finished sometime, and maybe it will be better than it was before. For sure it will be better than it is right now!
