Happy Thanksgiving and happy long weekend.
This is my favorite holiday, not only is it a time to reflect on all our blessings, a time of harvest, clean up and preparing for winter, it is also a weekend of generosity, and lovingly prepared food to be shared with people we enjoy.
In that same vein of generosity and sharing food, we will be teaming up a bit with a local charity. Our leeks had a terrible time this year, and are looking real sad. But, it also just so happens that a CSA member volunteers with a charity and organic community garden that has a glut of leeks that they are working on distributing to the community before the season is over and have graciously allowed us to help.
So this week, we will have leeks from a garden in Georgetown that uses its produce to feed tons of locals through different organizations. Every bundle of leeks we distribute through the CSA will have the money go directly to the charity to continue to share food. Looking on their website, they seem to be very active in the community and I now that I know about them and what they do, I'm looking forward to helping out a bit in the winter once the market is over. If you want to know more about this group, you can check them out at www.ammacanada.ca and follow the links to see what they are doing in Halton.
For any one grabbing turkeys this Saturday, it will be the same as last year, I will have a bunch of coolers set up in the van with weight stickers on them. Grab the one you want and pay $4/lb. either by cash or e-transfer before the end of the market.
Thanks again.
