Hello there,
Another busy week ahead, along with the usual planting, weeding, and harvesting, we are also running our rabbits to the butcher and moving a new batch of littles bunnies outside, welcoming our borrowed bull back for another season of lovin', and moved our little puppies into a larger space now that they are starting to run around and eat solid food.
So a quick note on the bunnies. We started raising rabbits before we had moved to Erin. I bought a pregnant doe from a teenage neighbour around 11 years ago, and for a while had them living in our garage in a rented duplex in Fergus. Probably one of the cleanest, quietest and most versatile meat sources you will find, which is why you can find them in back yards and sheds in even the largest cities.
A rabbit has a gestation period of 28 days, and our rabbits have around an average of 7 kits with each litter. Though many producers will breed them back quickly, we give them a break between litters to recover. Each little bun is raised for around 14 weeks on pellets, grass and hay before being processed at the butcher.
Thanks again,
