Hey there,
Its looking like another rainy week which means good weed pulling and transplanting weather. We have trays of plants on the go until September. Every couple weeks we succession plant lettuce into trays for planting out later, and we also have the fall broccoli and cauliflower just about ready to plant out. The plug trays keep us hoping, between the plug trays and the animals both needing feeding and watering twice a day, it makes it tricky to get away for more than a few hours at a time.
Planting with plugs for certain plants can really get us ahead. For most people starting seeds at home, you will start peppers, tomatoes, eggplant, cucumbers maybe, and a few others. We start those early as well in the house, but we also start many of the veggies you are already enjoying in your shares. The green onion, bok choy, broccoli, head lettuce, nappa cabbage, kohlrabi etc, the onions were started mid march, and all those lovely brassicas were started in the the office end of march, early April in little 2" plugs or open trays, and then planted out into the garden under row cover for both frost and insect protection end of April/early May. So for those of you looking to get a jump on your veggies for next year, there are so many things you can start early and plant out early.
Thanks,
