Farm Happenings for June 6, 2024

Posted on June 3rd, 2024 by Emily Hendrikx

Hey there,

It's the second pick up of the year, but may be your first, so I'll do a quick review again just incase at the end.

This week will be full of weeding and planting.  The moist soil is good for pulling when pulling weeds close to the plants.  Do this when it is too dry and you may disturb the roots and your veggies will start wilting.  We will be doing a lot of transplanting as well.  With a damp and overcast week it is the perfect time to transplant.  There is less transplant shock and less watering for me, win-win.

Our Rustic Red meat chickens will being to the butcher next week as well.  A slower growing, hardier meat bird, these guys have been enjoying the shade of this warm and mild spring.  Its been fun watching them wander around in the grass, laying in the shade and scratching at the grass.

You will receive an email a few days before your pick up.  In the email it will have a bunch of veggies for you based on your preferences that you have filled out or if you haven't filled out the preferences, a nice assortment of what is available.

From this email, you can swap and sort through what is available to customize your share.  You have about 2 days to make any swaps or changes before the cut off time the day before delivery.  This allows me to pick and pack all your veggies before the delivery.

You will find your veggies in the walk in cooler at the farm, or inside the garage at the Rockwood location.

If you have any questions, if I have forgotten something or anything, please let me know, and I look forward to growing for you and feeding you this summer.

Thanks again!
