Farm Happenings for October 3, 2024

Posted on September 30th, 2024 by Emily Hendrikx

Hey there,

Another beautiful week ahead and it is the second last week of the share and farmers' market.  The season has gone by so quickly and want to make sure you folks know how thankful we are for your support, and how I couldn't do this thing I love without you and the community.

Thanksgiving is coming up and is my favourite holiday.  Celebrating what we are thankful for with our favourite people.  Preparing, cooking and eating the harvest, all the hearty comfort foods, left overs and soups; recipe swapping, pot lucks and conversation, and most of the decorations we see this time of year are from the garden.

So speaking of Thanksgiving, if you didn't already know or reserve a Turkey, we still have a few left.  We offer whole, half, breast, legs and backs for Thanksgiving and beyond.  We will have them fresh at the farm and farmers' market Oct 12-14, and them frozen after that.  We also have a good selection of all the fall veg for you to start planning out your dishes!

And, speaking of dishes, many of you lovely friends have shared your recipes with me over the years, and some have become staples in our house.  Even just tips, like using wax paper under the mason jar lids when making kraut to protect the metal from rusting, how you use collards, falafels, bean burgers, keep them coming!

One other neat thing we will have for the last 2 weeks of the CSA share is unpasteurized apple cider in 1litre bags and 1.8litre jugs, just pressed on Sept 25 and now frozen.  The apples are from the Amma Charity just outside of Georgetown, (pressed near St. Jacobs) and we will have some of their apples available at the market as well.  We tend to enjoy the cider in the colder months, warm and spiced.  It is one of our holiday traditions to warm up with hot cider after cutting our tree.  The cider should last well in the freezer for months, perfect for all the cold days and nights ahead.
