Last Pick Up Happy Thanksgiving

Posted on October 7th, 2024 by Emily Hendrikx

Hey there,

What a season!  It is about mid October and the whole season has flown by.  So much beautiful summer rain, hot and long fall, and early and mild spring.  All and all, we couldn't have asked for more beautiful weather.  With every season, even with the weather cooperating, there are always other ups and downs.  Pests, weeds, old seed/crop failures, etc all part and parcel of this lovely agricultural experience that I am so grateful that you all allow me to do for a living!

Like I mentioned last week, Thanksgiving is my favourite holiday, and I want to thank you all again for your support, your recipes, your opinions, tips, suggestions and criticisms.  These things help us grow, improve and help to serve you better.  :)

A quick acknowledgement for the help I have received throughout the year from my family, friends and neighbours; fellow market vendors, customers, and local food groups.  They have helped us with day to day jobs around the farm, filling in at the market, marketing to the community, and the kind and encouraging words many of them and you have shared.  When it comes to the garden and my community my heart is full, even when feeding the cows another salad turnip crop failure because of all those damn worms!

This week will be a busy one, we have some frost damage, and will be picking furiously to get the last of the tender crops in before the night temperatures really dip.  Getting ready to plant the garlic, tidying up the garden and the hoophouse for winter planting, and harvesting and organizing the winter storage crops.  Last but not least, taking the lovely turkeys to the butcher on Friday.

Next Steps:  We tried this year to plan more for the winter and are testing the waters for a fall/winter share until December.  So stay tuned for pick up instructions and location.  This will probably be combined with one off orders if you would like to grab a few things through out the winter.  These will be every 2 weeks at the farm and Georgetown, location TBD.

Holiday Market Nov 30.  We will be in Georgetown for the Holiday Market with storage veg as well as holiday wreaths, urns, decor and cider.  It is a lovely indoor/outdoor market, so if you have the chance, check it out.

Anyways, once again, thank you for all your support and I hope you have enjoyed the season, because I have enjoyed growing for you!
