Hello and how's it going? All too soon, the CSA is going to come to an end. But for now, we push on and into the Fall season.
This week we feature some new items that include pie pumpkins (yum!) and a newer winter squash called the honeynut. This small butternut hybrid was bred for it's superior taste and small size (one of our farm partners, Stone Barns, had a large hand in developing this squash). Super sweet and delicious, this squash is more perishable than the butternuts so enjoy them before they are past their prime.
Rivendale is focused on various ways of incorporating technology into our farming practices. This month we have been working with the CMU robotics program as they develop a robot that can collect data about plants. If development goes well, they are also trying to find a way to get the robot to do some weeding tasks as well. How cool would that be for organic agriculture?
No signs of frost just yet, but it's coming. Enjoy the bounty while it's here.
On behalf of the crew,
Neil
ps--Here's a pic of the CMU students testing one of their robots in the field today.
