Hi everyone,
As things start drying out after a week of drizzle and gray skies - and blessedly cooler weather - our greens and lettuces are starting to roll in. We just started harvesting kale, a sign that fall is here, and are getting a big order of mustard greens from our farmer friends at Major Acre Farm in Laplace. We're definitely in a shoulder season, combining summer and fall crops: cherry tomatoes and green peppers from Faust Farm, and more beautiful winter squash from Indian Springs. Plus we'll have the usual salad greens from Compostella Farm in Picayune.
We still have a couple Community Shares available for Tuesdays. If you know of anyone who might be interested in getting a half-priced share due to financial hardship, they can fill out this form. We're also collaborating with our friends at The Blue House on figuring out ways to get produce from our share to folks in that Central City neighborhood. Thus far, it's been a pretty informal distribution system involving The Blue House director walking around to people's porches and offering them food that we've donated. Neighbors are now coming by on Tuesdays to see what's available and have expressed great pleasure in the food they've been cooking up. If anyone is interested in contributing to this effort to get fresh produce to community members in Central City, our GoFundMe page is still up.
Thanks as always for being a part of this. Have a great weekend and we'll see you on Tuesday!
