Dear CSA members,
August is finally here, and with it comes the excitement of the upcoming school year and the full swing of sports activities. As we gear up for this busy time, we find ourselves seeking some helping hands on the farm. The summer days are winding down, and we are working early mornings and late evenings to dodge the extreme heat. Our cooler has become our best friend, and it's a relief to drop off produce in its cool embrace. To keep the animals stress-free, we've been moving them later in the evenings. Additionally, our vegetable crops are starting to thrive, and we have a lot on our plate as we prepare for the fall season.
As August unfolds, the anticipation of the upcoming school year and the excitement of various sports activities are keeping us on our toes. Balancing the farm's busy schedule with getting the kids back into school mode can be a bit of a challenge, but we're grateful for the joys and experiences that each season brings.
This Sunday, August 6th, from 3 PM to 5 PM, we're reaching out to our incredible community for a little extra help on the farm. With many of our high school workers preparing for their academic and extracurricular commitments, we have one significant project that we would truly appreciate your support with.
We'll be gathering to harvest our delicious potatoes from the fields, and we're in need of enthusiastic volunteers to join us. Don't worry; the potatoes are already dug up, so your task will be to help pick them off the ground and place them in bins. It's a rewarding experience that brings us together to celebrate the bountiful harvest as we gear up for the fall.
To show our gratitude, each family that comes out to help will receive some of these freshly picked potatoes to take home. There's nothing quite like the taste of homegrown produce, and we're excited to share it with you.
Beyond the labor of love, this volunteer event presents a fantastic opportunity for us to spend some one-on-one time with you, get to know you better, and answer any questions you may have about our practices, crops, or life on the farm.
Date: Sunday, August 6th Time: 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM
Bring your family, friends, and your enthusiasm for a fulfilling afternoon of community and harvest. We can't wait to see you there and appreciate all the support we receive from our wonderful volunteers!
Now, let's talk about some of the delightful produce you can enjoy this month. Ginger Gold apples have made their debut, and they're perfect for snacking, baking, and making applesauce. Their sweet and tangy flavor will undoubtedly impress your taste buds.
Moreover, August brings an abundance of tomatoes and peppers, and we're delighted to highlight the wonderful world of cherry tomatoes. These little bursts of flavor can be used in various ways to enhance your meals. Store them at room temperature for the best taste and texture.
To inspire your culinary adventures, here are some delicious cherry tomato recipes:
-
Cherry Tomato Bruschetta: Toast slices of baguette and top them with a mixture of halved cherry tomatoes, fresh basil, garlic, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and a sprinkle of salt and pepper.
-
Caprese Salad Skewers: Thread cherry tomatoes, mozzarella balls, and fresh basil leaves onto skewers. Drizzle with balsamic glaze for a delightful appetizer or snack.
-
Cherry Tomato Pasta: Sauté cherry tomatoes with garlic and olive oil, then toss them with your favorite pasta and finish with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil.
-
Stuffed Cherry Tomatoes: Hollow out cherry tomatoes and fill them with a savory mixture of cream cheese, herbs, and chopped vegetables for an elegant appetizer.
-
Roasted Cherry Tomato Salsa: Roast cherry tomatoes with onions, garlic, and jalapeños until caramelized, then blend them into a smoky and flavorful salsa.
We hope these ideas inspire you to explore the wonderful world of cherry tomatoes and make the most of this bountiful season.
Thank you for your continuous support, and we look forward to seeing you on the farm this Sunday!
Best regards,
The Schultz Family ??
