Busy Week Ahead and Delicata Squash Discussion

Posted on September 13th, 2023 by Lynne Schultz

Dear everyone,

We hope this message finds you well. We wanted to give you a quick update on our activities for the upcoming week and share some exciting news about our fall produce.

Firstly, this week is shaping up to be a whirlwind for us, with a full schedule of soccer matches and coaching duties. As a result, you may notice that only Tabby and Andrew will be at the market, while Josh will be busy coaching the boys. We appreciate your understanding in advance, and we'll make sure to provide the same excellent service you're accustomed to.

Please take note that we have an important deadline this Friday. We kindly request that all orders and requests for printing be submitted by 6 am on Friday. This will allow us to ensure everything is printed and prepared for Josh's coaching responsibilities. Your cooperation in meeting this deadline is greatly appreciated.

Speaking of deadlines, it's evident that fall is in the air, and our stand and farm are beginning to reflect the changing seasons. We have an abundance of winter squash varieties for you to choose from, but we wanted to highlight one in particular – Delicata squash.

Delicata Squash: Delicata squash is a delightful and versatile winter squash variety. Here's a quick overview of how to prepare and cook it:

Preparation:

  1. Start by washing the squash thoroughly.
  2. Cut the squash in half lengthwise and scoop out the seeds.
  3. You can leave the skin on, as it's edible and adds a lovely texture.
  4. Slice the squash into rings or half-moons, depending on your recipe.

Cooking Methods:

  • Roasted Delicata Squash: Toss the slices with olive oil, salt, and your favorite herbs. Roast at 400°F (200°C) for 20-25 minutes, or until tender and slightly caramelized.
  • Stuffed Delicata Squash: Fill the squash halves with a savory stuffing mixture and bake until the squash is tender.
  • Delicata Squash Soup: Blend roasted squash with broth, onions, and spices for a creamy and flavorful soup.
  • Delicata Squash Salad: Add roasted or raw delicata slices to your favorite salad for a sweet and nutty crunch.
  • Delicata Squash Fries: Cut the squash into thin strips, toss with seasonings, and bake for a healthier alternative to french fries.
  • Delicata Squash Pasta: Spiralize delicata into noodles or add thinly sliced rings to your pasta dishes.
  • Delicata Squash Tacos: Roasted delicata makes a fantastic taco filling when combined with your favorite toppings.

We hope you enjoy exploring the culinary possibilities with Delicata squash this fall!

Thank you for your continued support, and we wish you all a wonderful weekend ahead.

Warm regards,

The Schultz Family
