Exciting News from the Farm! ???

Posted on July 10th, 2024 by Lynne Schultz

Dear Friends,

Greetings from the farm! I hope this email finds you all doing wonderfully and that you had a fantastic Fourth of July celebration. We’ve had an incredibly busy week here, and I can’t wait to share all the exciting updates with you.

First and foremost, we’ve made significant progress with our strawberry planting. We’ve managed to get a third of them in the ground – that’s a lot of strawberries! Only 10,000 more to go, but we’re up for the challenge. The recent rains have been a blessing, ensuring everything is well-watered and growing beautifully. The crops are maturing nicely, and we’re looking forward to an abundant harvest.

Speaking of abundance, we have a cornucopia of delicious fruits and vegetables available for you this week. Our selection includes plums, peaches, cherries, blueberries, and blackberries. If you’re a melon lover, you’ll be thrilled to know we have cantaloupes and sugar cubes ready for you.

Tomato season is in full swing, and we have an impressive variety for you to choose from. Whether you prefer cherry, heirloom, red, or yellow tomatoes, we’ve got you covered. Personally, I’d love to know – what’s your favorite type of tomato? The choices are endless!

Here on the farm, we use red tomatoes for our homemade sauces, salsa, and sandwiches. Heirlooms and yellow tomatoes make the perfect addition to BLTs and wraps, while cherry tomatoes add a burst of flavor to any salad, whether it’s a green salad or a pasta salad.

In addition to our fantastic fruits and tomatoes, we also have eggplant and green peppers this week. With such a variety, the culinary possibilities are endless. We can’t wait to see the creative meals you come up with!

This week, we’re shining a spotlight on our delectable blackberries. These little gems are not only delicious but also versatile. Here are some tips on how to store and prep them:

  1. Storing Blackberries: Keep them in a breathable container in the fridge, unwashed, to maintain their freshness.
  2. Prepping Blackberries: Rinse them gently just before use to ensure they stay firm and juicy.

To inspire your culinary adventures, here are three delightful recipes featuring blackberries:

  1. Blackberry Jam: Perfect for spreading on toast or adding to your favorite desserts.
  2. Blackberry Cobbler: A comforting, sweet treat that’s sure to impress.
  3. Blackberry Spinach Salad: A fresh, vibrant salad that’s perfect for summer.

We hope you enjoy these recipes and make the most of the fresh produce we have to offer this week. Thank you for being a part of our farm family and for supporting our passion for growing the best fruits and vegetables.

Warm regards, The Schultz Family
