This is the first week of our CSA fruit share. If you are enrolled in this share, your weekly fruit will be included in your box. This week we have organic Colorado peaches. Grown in Pallisade, CO, these Redhaven peaches are a sweet, juicy freestone variety that is harvested ripe and full of summer sweetness. You can add them as an extra this week if you didn’t purchase a fruit share.
Well, we are sure thankful that the hot snap has passed. We have been surveying the damage and the crops seem to have pulled through (mostly) unscathed. Time will tell. When plants get overheated they tend to abort their fruit/drop their blossoms so often the consequences aren’t immediately observed. The peas are definitely done and we are so sad! We are testing a fall planting again this year, but we have yet to be successful with a fall crop of peas.
One of Deidre’s favorite things to do in the garden is learn about insects…especially beneficial ones. In the above picture you can see a ladybug larvae, which is one of the most beneficial in the garden. Lady bugs devour aphids in large quantities. Also in the picture is a spider with a fly in its grip. Both flies and aphids are detrimental insects so we feel blessed to have nature keeping them in check.
Have a wonderful week and we look forward to seeing you all soon!
