Farm Happenings for August 28, 2024

Posted on August 24th, 2024 by Trent Loewen

It's fascinating to observe how the garden evolves and how the variety of crops shifts as the season progresses! Now, some of the longer-season vegetables are ready to harvest, like bell peppers, celery, larger cabbages, and onions. The garlic has all been harvested and is beginning to cure, and it looks like the Yukon Gold potatoes are ready for digging, too.

Ideally, we'd have shorter-season crops like lettuce, radishes, and salad turnips available all summer. However, sometimes weather or other factors beyond our control disrupt things. As farmers, part of the challenge is managing those risks. At the moment, due to a combination of factors, we don’t have lettuce or salad mix, which is disappointing, but more will be available in the coming weeks.

Your box will be built automatically with only produce in it but everything else is available to swap in. Besides the produce, there is fresh baking (baked by my Mom), refrigerator pickles, and our homemade ranch dressing.

As always, if you have any trouble with swapping or anything else, you’re welcome to call/text or email. Trent - 306-883-8832, Lois - 306-883-9289. Also the folks at Harvie are happy to help, reach them at support@harvie.farm.

Have a great week!
