Berry Bliss in the High Tunnel!
Last season we received a grant from the USDA to build a new greenhouse on our farm (pictured above). The grants were given out to farms with the goal of building new 'high tunnels' to aid in season extension (growing crops during seasons that otherwise wouldn't support those crops). We were absolutely thrilled to receive this grant and spent last season building our brand new green house and getting it ready to support crops for the 2020 season!
This year our new greenhouse is home to our new 'experiment' in strawberry growing... High Tunnel Ever-Bearing Strawberries! Everyone loves strawberries, and everyone agrees that the season is far too short. In the past, the Ever-Bearers have been the one variety to grow beyond 'Strawberry Season' and have blessed us with a late crop each summer. We have now taken that variety, planted them in 'smart pots', and filled our new high tunnel to the max. We are optimistic that this new planting of Ever-Bearing Berries will give us a far longer and more reliable strawberry season to enjoy this year, and for years to come.
