Tomato Time

Posted on July 16th, 2022 by Dave Redfearn

The outdoor tomatoes are ripening quickly which means now is the time for tomato canning and freezing adventures.

if you didn’t know, freezing tomatoes whole is a fantastic way to store that amazing flavor for later. In winter just plop the frozen tomatoes in water and the skins will pop right off. Then you have fresh tomatoes for stews and soups in winter!

We’ll be putting 20lb bulk boxes on the list for availability. We’ll also include bulk damaged boxes at discount for immediate use.

A word of tomato advice. Don’t put them in the fridge. Tomatoes get cold damage from fridge temps. We have a special cooler set to 55 to keep them in good condition. Temps below 45 will make them taste more like storebought tomatoes.

This week will probably be peak tomato harvest for us. We should have tons of tomatoes coming for the next 3 weeks before production starts to decline, so dive in and grab as many as you want these next few weeks.

We’re in Colorado

Thanks to our amazing farm crew, we’re still enjoying mountain climbing in Colorado. That means we’re having to do the harvest estimate from afar.  Hopefully we don’t over or underestimate the harvest too much. We’ll be looking forward to handing out your shares this week assuming no more car troubles on the way home (we spent half the day in a mechanic shop on the way to CO but we’re all patched up now).
