Last Fall Box!!! (Please Click on Continue Reading to see Whole Newsletter)

Posted on October 24th, 2022 by Ayla Dodge

Hello and welcome to the LAST BOX OF THE SEASON!

***shortage of radishes- you may not get them in your box this week!

***Popcorn will be in all half shares this week** (not on label because I couldn't just add it to half shares that way)

What a season it has been!  We hope you have enjoyed the bounties of the farm, and all that comes with that! We know it can be challenging to find ways to incorporate new veggies into your meals and we appreciate your commitment and dedication to eating seasonal, local organic veggies!

This winter we will be switching software platforms that will suit our needs better as a farm.  Stay tuned for an update on how to sign up for winter deliveries (meat, root veggies, add-ons, etc...) as well as how to sign up for your 2023 CSA shares!

Here is what you may find in your share this week:

Bunched Beets- A nice mix of golden and red.  You can use the top, too, like you would swiss chard but someof the greens got hit by the frost pretty hard.

Rutabaga- These make a great mashed potato sub or mixed with potatoes!

Celeriac- THese roots taste like celery, but should be cooked up. Peel first. stores for months. Use the peels in stock!

Leeks- A lovely flavor for eggs, soups, or frittatas/quiches.

Potatoes- Again, like I have talked about a lot this year, our yields suffered immensely due to the potato beetle so you are only getting a small amount.  Enjoy!

COllard Greens-These leafy greens are great in stews, cooked up slowly in broth and a ham bone or bacon, or just slow cooked with onions and fat on the stove top.

Brussels Sprouts- Such a treat, if you cook them enough!  The trick with brussels that I have found is you need lots of fat (oil or grease) and you need to roast them longer than you think you should- til some are browned.  THey are SO GOOD!

Popcorn (half shares)- A nice decorative piece until you are ready to take the kernals off the cob and pop them on the stove top!

Red Radishes- We are SHORT ON RADISHES, We are sorry, but the hard freeze made it impossible to harvest them.

Salad Turnips- These on the other hand look awesome!

Purple Top Globe Turnips- for cooking- These are great with roasted roots.

Winter Squash mixed 2

Sage Bunch- great with potatoes!-You can dry these too by hanging upside down until brittle and then jar them up.

Spinach- Sweet this time of year!

Salad mix- A nice mix of mainly lettuces but a little grilly mustard and arugula in there, too, for flavor and texture.

collecting all the remaining pumpkins for the piggos

more pumpkin collecting

this pig loves pets and the kids to ride on her!

We thank you very much for supporting your local farm and have a great winter!
