We are very excited to start our season this week with our current CSA members and friends! Some are ordering outside of Harvie, so this email is for everyone. A few things in our pick list may seem different or unknown to some and we would like to highlight those in this note before you preview your box. Green Sprouts: These are the tops of the collards and kale that have a similar resemblance to broccoli in texture and tastes. The tops hold the same nutrition as the rest of the plant and can be used in a salad, sautéed, or infusing oils. Some may have yellow flowers, all of which are edible and great for supporting the immune system. Dandelion greens: These are highly nutritious and can be cooked or tossed in a salad. Purple Dead Nettle: This is a highly nutritious super food from the mint family. Check out this Link to know everything about it! I’m drying my own bunch for making salves. Customers will have until noon on Thursday to preview the box. Between now and then, please feel free to ask any questions.

About the farm
Founded in 1955, agriculture was a key component of Blue Mountain Academy school program. BMA operated a farm and dairy through the mid-90’s when it shut its farm down due to financial difficulties. In 2012, the school board voted to return to its roots and restart its agriculture program. Starting with a couple of greenhouses and a small vegetable garden, this program has expanded to include, laying hens, approximately 3 acres of veggie gardens, berries, herbs, orchards, herbs, bees, hay, and grain crops. In 2017 a portion of the farm became certified organic, and in 2019 the remaining fields were certified as well.
