D&V Organics CSA
Week 27
While this past week's weather has been chilly, it hasn't been cold enough to damage anything severely. It is always a gamble growing a lot of greens this late in the season, however, we lean on some of the more cold hardy greens to get us up into December. Despite having frosty temperatures over the past several mornings/evenings, things like lettuces, spinach, bok choy and the likes can take a good amount of frost before being killed off by a solid freeze. We have found that less damage to the plants occur when the temperatures gradually dip below freezing instead of a sudden drop from evenings in the 50s to evenings in the upper 20s. This next week looks good for warmer temperatures, which will allow things to continue to grow, we are hoping that our broccolini crop will be ready to harvest for weeks 28 and 29.
Enjoy,
Derek & Vicky
