Hi Farm Friends!
***Don't forget to swap things out if you'd like! You can fill your share with turnips- assuming there are some still available.***
As I write this I'm savoring the long day and appreciating the changes in seasons, day length, and life. On summer solstice we acknowledge transitions and letting go. These cycles of life create opportunities for reflection and pause. Traditionally solstice is a time of making space for change and saying goodbye. It is interesting to think on that for a bit. It hasn't been the easiest of weeks on the farm. I'm not looking for sympathy in saying that- just being real with you. It's hard to remember how insane it gets out here, how imbalanced, until it is upon us. Conner and I pass like ships in the night. Everything needs water and weeding and protection from pests. The grass grows and the animals need food. The hay is cut and baled and in need of strong arms for lifting and loading. We need to eat. Our kids need us. We need them. We need rest and fun and restoration. The zucchini needs harvesting. It's endless and at the same time completely fleeting. There is always more. All of these moments are an opportunity to let go. For us to savor the now.
On this solstice, more than anything, I'd like to personally let go of the future. I dwell there often. The farm, in all of its abundant life, is a gift and an infinite opportunity for me to practice being present in the everyday. We chose this life and we choose it over again and again and again. It is the seemingly mundane moments that make it so special. For all of its chaos it is truly such a gift.
Wishing you the best of longest days,
Sarah + Conner
