Isn't it amazing to get a box of fresh food from local farms in the middle of winter? We have our greenhouses to thank for that, as well as the dedication of Farmer Mike and Iber, our master harvester. They've been going out to the fields, shoveling snow off of carrot beds covered in upcycled greenhouse plastic, and digging into the frigid ground to harvest our carrots by hand. It's a labor of love!
Cold grown carrots are naturally sweeter, as the sugars and nutrients concentrate in the root. That's why our carrots have been flying off the shelves in our farm store. They're just so dang good. Grab a bag or two this week and see what the hype is all about.
Coming Soon:
- More greens! They get sweet in the colder weather too.
- Flower Bouquets! We'll have a whole greenhouse dedicated to Diem's flowers this year! Some are already starting to show some color and should be ready soon.
- Fig Trees! Locally sourced from a neighbor farm, these fig tree cuttings will be potted and ready for delivery soon. We're excited to share more and we'll keep you posted!
Speaking of plants...did you know that Earth Spring Farm sells our custom soil mixes in retail bags and scoops? Now is the time to think about your sprouts and starts, and plan for rich, living soil in your Spring container gardens or raised beds. Check out our website to learn more about our mixes, and place an order right here in Harvie to get your soil delivered with your groceries!
That's all for now. Be well and stay warm!
