Friends,
Looks like cool temps will be rolling in this week (it's about time) and I'll be busy closing up the greenhouses, seeding the cover crop on 15 acres (garlic has been planted and is sprouting nicely), and moving blueberry plants to make way for the new flower field on the hill beside the barn.
New this week:
Persimmons! Fresh and organic from our friends at Maple Ridge: These are called Saijo and they are one of the sweetest varieties you can eat. But you must wait until they are soft before eating! If you eat these when they are firm you will undoubtedly cancel me and persimmons for the rest of your life - because they are astringent unless very ripe!
Carrots are back as well as red onions, carnival acorn squash and water melon radish. Also there is seed garlic available which you still have time to plant in PA or any points south. Break apart the bulbs and plant the cloves 6" apart. They will survive whatever winter throws at them.
Also available:
Dry Guajillo peppers, Fuji Apples and Bosc pears
