Farm Happenings for August 23, 2024

Posted on August 18th, 2024 by Mike Nolan

Friends,

There's a chill in the air as the days grow shorter and the cool season veges are responding like it's springtime.  There's a few things you can still seed directly this time of year such as lettuce mix, radishes, arugula, Asian greens, Asian cabbage and the kales. if you are down in DC you can still seed carrots, beets and plant seedlings of broccoli.  These crops love the shorter days (up until mid-November through mid-Feb) and give us some of the best tasting cold crops all year.

Firewood Available: I had to take down 2 giant honey locust trees on the farm in the past 2 years  (120 years) and I have about 12 cords of excellent firewood (locust is considered one of the hottest woods to burn and leaving very little ash. I also have some cherry and black walnut mixed in the stacks here too.

A full cord of wood is 8'long x 4' wide x 4' high

Prices:

1/4 cord - $165 (32 cubic feet)
1/2 cord - $320 (4'long x 2' wide x 2' high)
Whole cord - $625 (8'long x 4' wide x 4' high)

Typical wood length is 15"

Short wood orders: add $20 per quarter cord for about 12" lengths

Call or text me for delivery details and scheduling.
