Two weeks left and your basket is packed with flavor! The fields love the change in weather, away from the hot baking days into the warm nights and comfortable days. September is full of change. Over the years, September has marked the return to school, which marks the change in home schedules, return to sports schedules, return to longer work schedules, and a whole host of new activities to fit into routines. September also holds the last day of summer on the 22nd.
Folks that like tomatoes should be celebrating this week - they made it! We started picking the grape and cherry tomatoes as well for the first time in several weeks. We walk around holding them like the precious fruits they are. Folks have been making sauce and planning ahead for the winter. Frozen, dehydrated, and canned - it feels great to have a couple of jars on the shelves. After a long day at work, you can come home to a comforting bowl of pasta or spaghetti squash covered in cheese and your sauce. You can also make a fresh sauce and use it right away - just enjoy that great tomato flavor of summer.
