[CSA Update] Last week of 2021 CSA

Posted on September 17th, 2021 by Ida DeFrancesco

We are here - the last week of the 2021 CSA season. Over the past eighteen weeks, you have eaten your way through farm-fresh vegetables and fruits, and the entire farm team has focused on bringing those to you. Time to reflect on some of the big events over the five months of our CSA.

We kept our teams running, and doors open under the second summer of the COVID-19 pandemic.

We welcomed 3 babies to the farm team.

My kids worked with me around the farm and learned how to drive tractors. We also had our first car driving lessons.

We've helped folks hatch hundreds of baby chicks in their homes this year, our first year with our Hatch The Chicken program.

We passed our good agricultural practices audit!

We watched the 2020 Summer Olympics in 2021.

We watched the first commercial space flight to orbit the Earth, going farther than any human has gone away from Earth since 1972.

We put fresh, local, and healthy food into your hands.

You helped us continue farming. We experienced excessive rain and record-breaking destruction. Storms Elsa, Henri, and Ida took out more than 50% of our fields around the farm. We received a month's worth of rainfall overnight, more than once. Despite that, we did not have any skip weeks for the 2021 harvest!

You supported our farming friends like Smyth's Trinity, Soffer Farms, Hastings Farm, and Cato Corner.

We donated food several times a week to our local food pantries from member donations, seconds, and planting a little extra for the community.

This busy farmer, father, and friend, hopes you can continue to put aside time to celebrate as well as time to sit down with your friends and family. Take time to plan out meals. Take time to sit down and take care of yourselves. Make a trip out to the farm stand - we are open through October 17.

Thank you for your support, your feedback, and for enjoying all the fun of the Farmer Harvest. We do this together.
