What’s in the box?

Bye-bye peas, hello garlic, and the first of the cherry tomatoes and eggplant!

The cucumber's and zucchini are going strong.  These both gave me some trouble last year, but I've been paying special attention to their fertility, and picking them every single day (instead of every other which has been my usual approach).

I recently decided to expand my summer squash repertoire and they are so versatile and delicious.  Take a peak at this amazing round-up for some ideas:

On the Farm

We are in full fall planting mode.  It's crazy right(?!?), as we've really just hit summer but that's farmers for you- always looking a season ahead.

The first round of broccoli and cauliflower are going in as we speak.  I've done a ton of research on ideal growing techniques, and took special care in fertility management.  I hope it pays off with bumper crops in a couple of months.

Carrots and beets go in over the next few weeks.  We aim to grow at least 3,000 lbs of carrots for fall/winter so it's a pretty enormous undertaking to get beds prepped, pre-sprouted, planted, irrigated and weeded (and then weeded again, and again, until forever).

It's a little tricky to fit everything in this season as we are in the middle of a wetland restoration project and are expanding our cold storage but it'll be worth it in the long term- just think of all the happy frogs and root vegetables!

That’s it for now, happy eating until next time!
