Tomatoes are a full-time job and it's Farmer Brian's Birthday
Administrative Details:
As always: a reminder to send back your cooler bags.
Just a quick reminder to sign up for your winter share if you like one and haven’t registered yet. I’m going to begin advertising this week and anticipate they will sell out rapidly.
What’s in the Box?
We are getting close to last call on some summer goodies like eggplant and basil. The basil inevitably gets mildew right around this time of year, and the eggplant is coming out soon to make way for winter greens. Enjoy these while they are here!
We are just starting to harvest our first bell peppers; they’ll be a mix of ripe and green for these first few weeks.
On the Farm:
My house smells like tomatoes. Everywhere there are little, and not so little red splatters. The dehydrators are going full time, pots are simmering, and I actually broke our sad little stove with the weight of the water bath canner. Tomato season sometimes feels like a full-time job on its own. But deep in winter, when the snow falls and storms rage, I can be tucked inside with minestrone and a book. #Worthit
It’s Brian’s birthday tomorrow. There’s a picture on the wall in our kitchen of the two of us at our first farmers’ market. We look like babies, innocent and full of joy, and wrinkle-free as we sell the first veggies we coaxed from the soil. You guys welcomed us with open hearts right from the beginning. Here’s to another turn around the sun, and another season growing great food for y’all!
That's it for now, happy eating until next time!
