Farm Happenings for September 1, 2021

Posted on August 29th, 2021 by Claudia Frey

Good morning everyone!

Well, first frost of 2021 happened on August 26th, and another on August 28th.  This is the second year we have experienced frost in August!  We had just set out the hoops with frost protection as a shade lid the week before to get through our second heat wave. The protection was on all of our plants that like the cool weather, so we were not set to protect the plants that like the hot weather.  Luckily, it was a spotty frost and only affected one whole winter squash plant.  Additionally, leaves on beans and squash were frost bit, but not whole plants.  We were ready, however, for the second frost!  Veggies that like a frost, like carrots, cabbage and brussel sprouts will sweeten nicely as they finish growing for our fall harvests!

Stephanie is adding Sage to her herbal offerings this week, and Clare continues to have extra flowers!  Please check out the extras for each of these offerings.
